On Saturday16th March 2024, the Woodland Owls, a forest school initiative based at Ullet Road Church and supported by the Wirral Unitarians, embarked on an adventure. At Ullet Road Church, we have a vibrant Sunday School, led by our talented and creative facilitators: Izzie, Sarah, Lucy, and Craig, and now our Forest School Teachers, Ella and Alice. The Forest School is named the Woodland Owls. The name is particularly fitting because 'Ullet' means a type of owl, and if you look at the roads in the area, you have Ullet Road leading off to Linnet Lane, and from Linnet Lane, we have Lark Lane. All birds!

We had fourteen children exploring the tranquil woodlands in the Wirral near Ness Gardens. The children enjoyed the freedom of play, with a flexible structure for learning to whittle, being creative with pottery, climbing, sleeping in a hammock under the canopy of trees and sky, swinging on a rope swing, and simply being present with friends without the need to be glued to their phones. This was our first adventure into the woodlands; our next one is scheduled for Saturday 18th May 2024. The cost details are provided below:

  • For working families: it will be £10 per child, + £5 per extra child (sibling)
  • For unemployed families: it will be £5 per child, + £5 per extra child (sibling)
  • For unaccompanied children, for the sole responsibility for Alice and Ella (the Woodland Owl Leaders): it will be £20 per child, + £5 per child (Sibling)

If you are interested to join us please contact the Rev. Phil Waldron. If you are interested in joining a vibrant, creative and radical Sunday School we meet every Sunday at 11am. You will be most welcomed!
