Sunday's Joyous Baptism of Florence May

Sunday's Joyous Baptism of Florence May

5 Jun 2023

On a glorious Sunday afternoon, Ullet Road Church was bathed in sunlight, creating a beautiful setting for the much-anticipated baptism service for Florence May. Affectionately known as 'Flo,' her baptism was an occasion of joy, witnessed by a sea of smiling faces and hearts filled with happiness.

Flo's parents, Mark and Saskia, brimmed with pride and joy as Rev. Phil bestowed upon the sacred rite of baptism. Rev. Phil, articulated the spiritual significance of Flo's name. He spoke of 'Florence,' a name signifying the unfolding of potential, and 'May,' a symbol of renewal and rebirth. The congregation listened with rapt attention, contemplating the depth of the name 'Florence May' and the promise it held of a life of constant blossoming, abundant growth, and endless renewal.

Further adding to the day's poignant emotions were readings by Flo's older sisters, Evie and Amelia. These talented young ladies shared poems they had personally crafted for their younger sister, their words reflecting the deep bond they share with Flo and their hopes for her journey ahead. The heartfelt poetry, coupled with the sisters' genuine affection for Flo, added a deeply personal touch to the ceremony.

The service was filled with song, as the family led the congregation in classic hymns 'Give Me Joy in My Heart' and 'One More Step Along the World I Go.' These beloved hymns, with their messages of joy, faith, and perseverance, resonated with everyone present, echoing through the church and uplifting all hearts.

Rev. Phil also shared a thoughtful reading of 'On Children' by Kahlil Gibran, a piece that captures the essence of parenthood and the journey of guiding a child through life. Its profound words served as a fitting reflection for Flo's special day.

Flo's baptism service was a perfect blend of spiritual observance, familial love, and community warmth. As the sunlight of this memorable Sunday afternoon faded into evening, the memory of Flo's baptism remained, shining brightly in the hearts of everyone at Ullet Road Church. This wonderful occasion will be cherished in our community's collective memory for many years to come."
