Over the Valentine's weekend, FACT Liverpool's 'Cinema in the City' transformed Ullet Road Church into an intimate pop-up cinema, offering audiences a unique cinematic experience. The event featured a curated selection of films inspired by the wedding tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue," exploring diverse facets of love.

The weekend commenced on Friday, 14 February, with a sold-out screening of the cult classic Harold and Maude (1971). This darkly comedic tale portrays an unconventional romance between a death-obsessed young man and a vivacious 79-year-old woman, challenging societal norms and celebrating unexpected connections.

Saturday's matinee showcased Bones and All (2022), directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film stars Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell as disenfranchised drifters embarking on a 3,000-mile odyssey across America, blending elements of romance and psychological thriller.

The evening featured an exclusive preview of Solo (2025), ahead of its theatrical release. The film follows Simon, a rising star in Montreal's drag queen scene, as he navigates complex relationships with a new romantic interest and his estranged mother.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with The Blue Caftan (2022), a nuanced Moroccan love story about a master tailor, his wife, and a young apprentice. The film delicately explores themes of love, acceptance, and hidden desires, marking its first screening in Liverpool.

Each screening began with a short film by a local filmmaker, showcasing emerging talent from the North-West. Attendees also enjoyed offerings from local vendors, including handcrafted wines from Dove and Olive, freshly fired pizzas from Scottabocca, and craft chocolates by Toxteth Chocolate.

FACT Liverpool's 'Cinema in the City' continues to bring the best of independent cinema to unique locations across the city, offering audiences memorable and thought-provoking experiences.
