Chris Tarrant Illuminates Ullet Road Church at the Unforgettable Smithdown LitFest!

On Saturday, 23rd September 2023, Ullet Road Church hosted the Smithdown LitFest, organized by the dedicated Ian Skillicorn, and what a lineup it was in the church and church hall. Ian, who tirelessly runs the Smithdown LitFest, skillfully interviewed both Tony Nicholson and Chris Tarrant, bringing out insightful and entertaining stories for all. Tony Nicholson gave a wonderful account of the history of quizzes. Tony was also the writer for the comedic legends, the Two Ronnies. The Wednesday before, members of the church community and the local community attended a quiz in the Black Cat Pub on Smithdown Road, where teams competed for a unique prize. The two winning teams would be quizzed on Saturday afternoon by the Quiz Master himself, Chris Tarrant! It was hard to believe that he was at our church, and on the stage hall hosting a quiz. Below are photos of the two teams who competed, with Chris Tarrant in the Church Cloisters. In the evening, Chris Tarrant talked about his book and shared wonderful stories about his time in television, from the early years of Tizwas and OTT to working on the radio and, of course, on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. There was one moment that Rev. Phil could not believe his eyes: Chris Tarrant, Tony Nicholson, and Lady Dodd, partner to the legendary comic Ken Dodd, all in his vestry—a wonderful moment to be remembered. We wholeheartedly congratulate Ian Skillicorn for his hard work and unwavering commitment to bringing such enriching events to our community.
